The Skywalker Family Tree...

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVE NOT KEPT UP WITH THE NOVELS AND COMICS.

With all the rumors about a new female Skywalker possibly in the new Disney movies, and the new Legacy comics featuring a female Solo, I thought I'd take on the challenge of making a Skywalker family tree chart.

*First a note*
So I put a ton of work into this, and after thinking I was pretty much done, I realized I should probably Google "Star Wars Family Tree" to see if someone had already done this.  And yep! MODI of Star Wars Atlas had already made a fantastic family tree chart.  And there were a few things I discovered I had overlooked! So I have to say I copied over a few things from his.  I tip my hat to you sir.
But I still wanted to post this.  I figure that it's better to get the Family Tree out there in a couple places so that it is remembered, and hopefully respected by Disney as they pursue the Star Wars Sequel trilogy.
I was trying to figure out a way to make mine slightly different so that it wasn't a complete copy, and with the help of my wife I decided to break down the family tree chart into different stages as it has evolved.  The Skywalker family has been growing since 1979.  There have been babies born, weddings, family members die, surprise relations, tragic falls to evil and emotional redemptions.  This is the Skywalker family that I and countless other Star Wars fans have grown up with. And before I tear up, here is how the story went:

Back in 1977:

At the end of A New Hope Luke is an Orphan.  A pupil of Obi-Wan's named Darth Vader had betrayed and murdered Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker. And Luke's only other family, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru have been burned to a crisp.

In one of the greatest surprise moments in all of history, Anakin Skywalker is discovered to be not only alive, but also the same person who just cut off Luke's hand.

After Return of the Jedi we discovered Luke has a twin sister that he's kissed full on the lips. Darth Vader is redeemed and we see that he has a seriously messed up face.  Leia also reveals that she has memories of a mother.  Sadly, it turns out that Obi-Wan tells Luke (in the novel) that Owen Lars is actually his brother, and not related to Anakin at all.  They will not be in the Skywalker family again until Episode II about 19 years later.

For 8 years that was it.  But then along came Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" which, looking back, really kicked off something crazy. His series jumped into the future, with Han and Leia married and with twins. During the following years a slew of trilogies and stand-alone books followed.  Han's evil "look-alike" cousin causes some problems while Luke struggles to set up a Jedi Academy.  Leia helps lead the New Republic and finally forgives and accepts Anakin Skywalker as her father.  She names her third child after him.  (Interestingly Anakin Solo's first appearance is in comic book).

The same year that we discovered young Anakin Skywalker had come from a miraculous conception from a slave woman on Tatooine, Luke marries the girl of his dreams, Mara Jade.  After many a girlfriend, he settles down with a character from Zahn's first novel.  The Solo children continue to grow up and have adventures worthy of children's books.

The Early 2000s brought us the begining of the Clone Wars in the past and an extra-galactic alien invasion in the future.  In Episode II we find out that Shmi Skywalker married into the Lars family so Cleigg and his son Owen join the chart.  In the midst of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Anakin Solo is killed, but Ben Skywalker is born to Luke and Mara.

2005 brought us Episode III and the Dark Nest triliogy.  By now Jacen has a baby girl with Tenel Ka, a childhood friend and daughter of long-time EU characters Teneniel Djo and Prince Isolder.  This brought in both the Hapan and Dathomiri clans into the family.

The Legacy Series brings tragedy to the Skywalker family as Mara and Jacen are both killed.  In the Legacy comics series, the family tree jumped ahead several generations, telling a story about a future Skywalker and a future Fel Empire. Most recently the Fate of the Jedi Series brought the story back and confirmed the marriage of Jaina Solo to Jag Fel, which was strongly hinted at in the Legacy comics.  The large Fel family had been well established in the EU and when they officially entered the Skywalker family they even brought Wedge Antilles.  That's right! Now both Death Stars were destroyed by the same family. The Legacy comics recently announced that there will be a new story arc about a future Solo as well.

This is the Skywalker family tree that has taken over 35 years to develop. I'm excited and a little nervous to see how the family will change and grow from here.  Here's to the greatest family in a galaxy far, far away.

(Disney, want to try to figure out a way to get Lando's descendants tied in here?)

Hope you enjoyed, and with all charts dealing with the ever expanding EU, it will be sadly out of date within a year.  Please send me any corrections or mistakes that I may have overlooked!
UPDATE:

Boy was I in for some disappointment.  April 25, 2014. A day long remembered. I will never forgive Disney and JJ for this. This could have been avoidable. Check out what the official press release killing the EU for good did to the Skywalker family tree:

After these characters are wiped out you are left with this:

One thing you might notice is no Han! Although it is strongly implied that Leia and Han are going to hook up we really don't know that for sure. Han could have choked on some Ewok cheese dip or drunkenly fallen off the railing of one of those Ewok tree villages. (I mean the railings are probably only knee high right? Easy to trip on.) So just as the end credits of Return of the Jedi start up, we really have no idea how things are going to work out. Okay well we know he is in Episode 7 but they may have never married or spawned any kids. Dang this is depressing. Also no Mara Jade. So we lost some really great characters. Ben Skywalker, Jaina Solo, Jagged Fel...so many have fallen to Disney. I've also updated Luke and Leia to their last cannon appearance.

In August a book was published called Star Wars in 100 scenes. Since this was after the date and it published the names of Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie they were brought back into canon. However according to these new rules for canon they are simply relatives of Padme who attended her funeral. How they are related to Padme is not known. Or at least we have to pretend we don't know in case it conflicts with Disney's freedom to tell stories.

UPDATE:
(And The Force Awakens Spoilers below)

The Force Awakens has been released. I've updated the Luke and Leia images to reflect their latest appearance and of course now we have Han back on the tree, with a grumpy newcomer simply called "Ben" for now. Perhaps we'll have his full name confirmed at some point. I think it's heavily implied that Rey is Luke's daughter, but we can't be sure yet and there has been a lot of talk of it being a bait-and-switch.
